Position Description:
KT Engineering has an immediate opening for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of structural mechanical subsystems on a future launch vehicle. Engineer will support the design, fabrication, and test of mechanical elements such as propellant tanks, primary structure, aero-surfaces, and mechanisms. Engineer will prepare CAD models and production blueprints using ProE CREO software. Engineer will be responsible for ensuring project designs meet technical, schedule and budget requirements and are readily producible. Candidate will also work closely with manufacturers during production phases. Limited travel to contractor sites will be required.
Engineer will be working as a member of a multi-contractor, multi-government agency team and may be required to provide work leadership for other team members. As such, candidate will be required to have effective (oral and written) communication and interpersonal skills. The position requires a highly motivated, goal-oriented individual who is interested in “hands-on” development and testing.
Preferred qualifications:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering (required).
- Detailed knowledge and at least 10 years of experience in:
- structural design and qualification of flight hardware
- knowledge of aerospace design and manufacturing methods
- welded structure, machine, and sheet metal designs
- mechanism and mechanical joint design
- Demonstrated proficiency in ProE CAD modeling/drawing production (required).
- Demonstrated proficiency in the design of fits between components and in the application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14.5 (required).
- Thorough knowledge of fabrication, machining, and other standard shop practices.
- Demonstrated ability to manage/complete projects on schedule and within budget while also meeting project technical requirements.
- Strong professional/technical writing, oral presentation and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite: Project, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Proven attention to detail and accuracy are critical to the position.
- Demonstrated effectiveness at working with the customer to quickly resolve issues.
