Position Description:
KT Engineering has an immediate opening for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to support the development of tooling and mechanical ground support equipment (MGSE) for a face-paced launch vehicle development program. Engineer will be responsible concept development, preliminary design, detailed design, CAD modelling, blueprint production, and vendor coordination. Candidate will also work closely with manufacturers during production phases. Engineer will support testing to validate the design and operational capability of MGSE. Candidate will be responsible for ensuring project designs meet technical, schedule and budget requirements and are readily producible.Engineer will be working as a member of a multi-contractor, multi-government agency team and may be required to provide work leadership for other team members. As such, they are required to have effective (oral and written) communication and interpersonal skills. The position requires a highly motivated, goal-oriented individual who is interested in “hands-on” development and testing. Limited travel will be required.
Preferred qualifications:
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in mechanical or aerospace engineering (required).
- Detailed knowledge and at least 10 years of experience in:
- structural design and qualification of tooling and ground support equipment
- aerospace and commercial manufacturing tooling and processes
- design and fabrication of ground support equipment, production tooling, and test fixtures
- welded structures, machine, and sheet metal designs
- mechanism and mechanical joint design
- Demonstrated proficiency in ProE CAD modeling/drawing production (required).
- Demonstrated proficiency in the design of fits between components and in the application of geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T) in accordance with ASME Y14.5 (required).
- Thorough knowledge of fabrication, machining, and other standard shop practices.
- In-depth experience using commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware and working with COTS vendors.
- Strong professional/technical writing, oral presentation and organizational skills.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite: Project, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Proven attention to detail and accuracy are critical to the position.
- Demonstrated effectiveness at working with the customer to quickly resolve issues.
